With every holiday season comes new Christmas parties. Especially for company events, it is not always clear what to wear. For starters, a simple first step is to ask for details of the dress code in advance. If there is none, then you can use the location usually to guide your outfit. For example, a trendy and stylish location will call for a different look than something more casual or rustic.
"When in doubt, go for overdressed" is my motto. You may be a little too chic, but the other way around will leave you feeling uncomfortable and out of place. At a minimum, any holiday party outfit should be smart casual. Ball gowns or tuxedos are definitely too dressy.
My suggestion? Think classic elegance with a subtle cool or edgy factor. Watch out - you do not want to be too sexy! A dark pant suit or pencil skirt with a silk blouse in a striking color, a knee-length velvet dress or skirt, or pleated skirt in a great fabric, like a taffeta or jacquard, with a short cardigan are examples for easy and stylish outfits for any holiday party.
In terms of color: try not to wear black! There are so many flattering colors that work well this holiday season, like petrol, midnight blue, bordeaux, plum, forest green or gray and silver. If you are bold, you can also go for a fiery red, combined with darker colors.
Those are my tips for dressing for holiday parties this season!
