You do a lot beside working with j.jackman. What else do you do?
As a freelance seamstress, I sew for many Berlin designers. I also work with private customers, for whom I design and make tournament dance wear.
But my favorite job is being my little daughter's mom :-)
How and why did you start sewing?
I used to be a passionate ballroom dancer, and I wanted to be able to sew my own clothes. It was always just my dream.
So I decided to do a 2 year training at a school for advanced education in design and tailoring.
What do you like about sewing?
I love the idea that at first there is only some thread and a pile of fabric, maybe a high-quality wool crêpe or a nice piece of silk. But with a lot of attention to detail and steady, precise sewing, a dress or pair of trousers can be made out of it. When it's done, I can say at the end of the process: "That was me! I made that!"
Sometimes I am so proud of what I make - kind of like a mother with her child.
What does it mean to you to sew clothes for others?
In my opinion, working in this field is something really gratifying. You make something that others enjoy, use, wear. I can literally see what I achieve through my work. Being able to please people, like Jovan and the customer, with my hand work and support them in their business philosophy is just something wonderful.
What do you want for your daughter?
I wish that she has the courage to be herself and to do whatever makes her fulfilled. Even though at the beginning it was hard for me to stand behind my craft as a seamstress (I always had to answer questions like: "Why didn't you study anything decent"), I am happy every day because I do what I enjoy.
I hope I can give that to my daughter.
